This might be the greatest trailer ever. The way it builds up tension is just breathtaking. There is beautiful rhythm to it, from the beginning, especially before Kittridge's monologue sets in. Then it carefully introduces the characters' faces, starting with Rebecca Ferguson. And only after Kittridge's "you got to pick a side", Tom Cruise's himself is revealed. Then (presumably) Lorne Balfe's bombastic score gears up with a very effective string of chords, underlined by magnificent action scenes. A stroke of genius: the synchronized blasts of the gas cartridges with the drums, which raises the stakes even more. A melody sets in, while we see a trademark car chase scene, Ferguson's badass swordfighting skills, and of course, Tom Cruise running - which blends, at exactly 90 seconds, into the Mission Impossible theme. And during its fourth repeat, we get this dramatic pause while Cruise and his motorbike fall off the edge a cliff... ending in the Title Card! Obviously, can't wait to see the film ... in about 11 months :-/
@Ritalie
@Ritalie Жыл бұрын
Gosh thanks so much for your amazingly articulate breakdown. You make me understand even more what a masterpiece this trailer is. This trailer might be the greatest movie trailer ever made, along with "The Batman" which had an insanely good trailer (I have not seen the new Batman film yet). I am so glad to see that the public loves Tom Cruise now, and the media failed to permanently tarnish his legend status. I don't care what anyone says, he's one of the top actors in history (in Earth's history). He has a charisma that nobody can match, and it's like every scene he produces has an intensity that is almost unparalleled in movies. Jonah Hill has a similar magnetic vibe, Denzel Washington. Not many actors completely steal the show in every scene like Tom Cruise does every time. I mean, Tropic Thunder was for me, entirely made because of Tom Cruise.

Too many once great franchises have gone down the toilet over the past 20 years, so it is good to see that this 'one' appears to have remained focused on providing the main star of the show with the master share of thrilling action coupled with a decent storyline - instead of turning him into a weeping, depressed drip, while an unlikeable, sarcastic, skinny twig of a girl drop kicks 6 gorillas to rescue him.

The gas explosion scene is so perfectly choreographed the last explosion there's a woman in a chair covering her face, closest to camera, and then blows back, it is extremely convincing and so well timed with the music and explosion- absolutely amazing. Yeah, that’s kinda dope he’s in the movie, apparently as the antagonist, cuz him and Cruise are basically in the same generation of actors in that they came up around the same time. A lot of times movies pit characters where one is either way older or way younger than the other one so subconsciously you almost feel, and this is kinda hard for me to articulate with clarity, that there’s a sorta “imbalance” there no matter how well they play off each other. Regardless, good to see him in a role & movie like this.

@emilianoo.1596
@emilianoo.1596 Жыл бұрын
@@DPham1 Again, it’s a little imperfect for me to articulate my thoughts clearly here about this issue not because I can’t just that a KZfaq comment section is not the ideal format that allows for the precision nuance that might necessitate the illustration I desire - people don’t write their master thesis essays on KZfaq replies for a reason lol...That being said, I’ll do my best as briefly as possible, in that my thoughts about it being an “imbalance” is generally about two things: 1) The subconscious imbalance for me is kinda similar to the “invisible” imbalance when a quite older man or woman has a love interest that is significantly younger than them, not that that is necessarily wrong per se but that it is rarely commented on or given any gaze when in society, wrongly or rightly, we all know that’s now how things typically maneuver because we, the individual, shift thru life in a western society dealing with mores, situational behavior, and more significantly to one party or another: power dynamics. And age difference feeds into a power dynamics and experience and hence perceived vulnerabilities that one might not be on equal footing than the other and how that feeds into the characters & story, and hence a sub level of an “imbalance” can lay with or without commentary; 2) Also, there’s the school, derived from the graphic novel/comics or even poetics, etc, where the antagonist and protagonist “should” be mirror images of each other in that the conflict is that they are so much alike that their conflicting goals are answering each other. And one way we as storytellers can convey mirroring characterizations in a visual medium like the cinematic form is to make these characters of similar ages and generation. That they lived thru the same time and hence have access to the same information - the filmmaker can provide this simple foundation of their characters by just showing that they are of similar ages, which mitigates having to provide this dynamic via exposition. If the characters (protagonist & antagonist) are of “equal” weight as much as possible then it allows tension because the audience will seek who will gain the upper hand in the present, scene by scene, and not where they gained the upper hand in the past before the story and opening credits began. It’s more narratively visual for the screen... I have no idea if any of that made any sense, but I hope it kinda alludes to what I was trying to get at in the first place. Thanks.

No disrespect to Paul Walker Rest In Peace, when he died the series died.... Speaking of dying when was the last time a character died in the movie? The answer to my knowledge Fast Five Hobbs shot Reyes on the bridge... Look at the last movie Fast 9 when we actually thought the lady got shot down turned out it was a drone.... Still Fast series is good since Paul has died. Seems like it is the same thing over and over again bad guy jumps to the good guys side at the end of the movie. .. Jason Mamoa is now confirmed in Fast X he will more than likely turn good from bad at the near end of movie. It will be surprising if any character dies... Would you like to see a character die in the fast series? Referencing the bad guys.

And yes the plot armor in this series is ridiculous and i would love to see both Heroes and Villains meet their end sometimes, i think in F9 Tyrese made fun of how they were never getting hurt at all even tho things are getting more ridiculous. Lenny and Hans were both literally brought back to life after meeting unlivable situations and the only good main character who seems to have been kept dead is Gal Gadots character
